Remylee + Aaron // Engagement Session

During the planning of their engagement session, Remy & Aaron said they were basically up for anything and would trust me to choose a location or two that suited them; their one and only request was that we keep the vibe casual. So when the day arrived, these two beautiful souls drove down to Port Alberni to hang out at a couple of my favourite spots, specifically chosen with the intricacies of who they are at the forefront of my mind.

Our first stop was a field I’ve shot at many many times before, yet each time I use it, it produces a unique result. The thing I love most about this field is that it’s a simple and uncomplicated setting that allows each client to bring their own magic to it. Not only that, but the aesthetic of the field itself changes quite drastically from season to season so I can shoot here time and time again and never grow weary of it.

Next, we headed to the uptown corridor to sip some warm drinks at local gem, Steampunk Cafe. This location was chosen to reflect how Remy & Aaron like to live their day to day–spending quality chill time doing the little things they enjoy so much.

I love their spirits and how they are together. The brilliance of their love and respect for one another was clearly visible through the way they interacted and communicated. As someone who photographs couples in love day in and day out, my eye is trained to search for split second moments and connections shared between two people. Watching these two, I saw so many of those moments. Like the way Aaron was so thoughtful and attentive towards Remy; making sure she was comfortable and cared for. And how Remy looked at him and really listened when he spoke. I have no doubt these two will enjoy a beautiful life together.

After delivering their gallery of images to them, I received an email that floored me. My eyes stung with happy tears. Normally, I keep to myself the sweet notes clients send because sharing them makes me uncomfortable and I am 100% sure that it’ll come off in an icky  “Mmmmm… I look good. I mean really good. HEY EVERYONE… COME AND SEE HOW GOOD I LOOK.” kind of way. But Remy penned such heartfelt, honest, and vulnerable words that struck a chord with me; As a woman, as an artist, as my own worst critic. I’d venture a guess that they may strike a chord with you too.

Adina,
There are no words to express the amount of gratitude that Aaron and I share, firstly for your speediness and diligence in delivering our gallery but more importantly for your creative mind, your kindness and generosity, and your ability to capture us in the most unaltered, genuine way.
When we clicked the link at the bottom of the email and watched as the most amazing, candid shots of us slowly loaded onto the screen, tears filled our eyes with joy and excitement.  You were able to capture moments that were simultaneously exquisite and vulnerable without making us feel uncomfortable.  Aaron and I both live with insecurities that we were terrified of becoming completely visible in our photos but you managed to capture that best parts about us – physically and emotionally. I think particularly as women we pick ourselves apart and say the worst things about ourselves, and in the last few years I’ve never felt good about the way I looked in shots where I wasn’t completely aware of exactly how I was positioning myself. You were able to capture moments where we had completely allowed ourselves to be in the moment and experience the love and happiness that we unapologetically allow ourselves to express.
Thank You, a million times Thank You, for making us feel and look so incredible, and for allowing us to experience these much sooner than we had anticipated.  You made us feel important and beautiful and that goes an incredibly long way in our books.  We can’t wait until the big day, and we are more than overjoyed about having found you.
Our best, in sincerity,
Remy&Aaron
Thank you, Remy & Aaron. You wonderful, wonderful human beings. I most certainly can’t take all the credit for these images… We created these together. They turned out so beautifully largely in part because you allowed them to. Because you trusted me enough to share your true selves with me. I am SO happy that, in these photographs, you’re able to see in yourselves the same radiant light I see in you.
And to those of you reading this… I would love the opportunity to show you the light I see in you too.
